MENA SVOD and OTT poised to explode over next 5 years
A very pleasing report from Digital TV Research for those us involved with the MENA VOD business.
Subscriptions are thriving in the region and this report is predicting exponential growth from 5.22m subscribers at the end of 2017 to an amazing 20.8m subscribers in just 5 years.
Apparently Turkey is the stand-out star with a third of the region’s total subscriptions.
As you would expect, Netflix is dominating the region, partly due to it geographical reach over local competitors.
According to Digital TV Research, Netflix’s global appeal for its original content is what’s propelling its subscriptions throughout MENA.
The Analyst firm indicated that there are currently too many Arab platforms. They are struggling to compete with Netflix’s ‘uber’ budget for original content and as a consequence, the market will not be able to sustain this many platforms long-term.
And its not just SVOD that will explode in the next 5 years, OTT services will grow sixfold between 2017 and 2013 to over $2 billion.
